In our journey to build a comprehensive resource around skincare and beauty products, identifying relevant discussions for each product category (e.g. sunscreens, blushes, etc.) is a key part of this process. Here’s exactly how we built an early version of the script that finds and records discussions around specific product categories:
The process begins with clearly defining what we’re looking for—usually a specific skincare category or product, like vitamin C serums. To ensure comprehensive coverage, we focus on specific Reddit communities (known as subreddits) known for lively discussions on beauty and skincare topics.
Using Reddit’s search tools, we gather discussions that directly relate to our chosen topic. The search prioritizes the most relevant threads—those that users have actively participated in and found valuable. This typically includes threads with high engagement, such as numerous comments or votes.
To make sure we’re always building upon previous research and avoiding duplicates, we keep a structured record of all discussions we’ve previously found. Whenever new discussions emerge, we compare them to this record. If a discussion hasn't already been recorded, we add it to the collection.

Regularly updating this collection helps us maintain an up-to-date snapshot of community opinions. This systematic approach ensures we pick up new/trending posts.
This structured approach helps us consistently deliver valuable, relevant content based on genuine user experiences and opinions, making it easier for our audience to find trusted insights.
