Editorial Summary: Hourglass Veil is loved for its smooth, blurring finish that’s perfect if you’re dry or want a natural glow. But oily folks might struggle with shine and cakeyness. It’s pricey but people swear by it, especially for under-eyes. Packaging is luxe and it’s talc-free, so bonus points there.
Methodology: Analyzed 67 quotes from Reddit across 15 beauty-related subreddits including MakeupAddiction and Sephora, dated between March 2014 and June 2025, synthesizing top pros, cons, and FAQs based on volume and sentiment.

Hourglass ambient lighting powder in ethereal light full size. Really didn’t want to love this because it’s so expensive, but I do. This is the second one I’ve been through this year. Don’t wear it everyday, but it adds such a lovely finish to my makeup, and I use it as a setting powder because I’m not that greasy. I have horrible bumpy skin from shaving and this seems to smooth my makeup out a little and make it look more polished.
Hourglass is nice but isn't oil controlling
Hourglass veil (doesn't work well on me, starts separating my makeup by hour 8, makes me look very yellowy)
Packaging: Very luxe, reflective, and the bronze-y red compact looks reaaallly good. It’s not that heavy and feels pretty light.
I use the Essence pure nude highlighter ($5) after finishing my hourglass powder and it is remarkably similar.
I use Hourglass Veil Loose Powder and it handles my under eyes better. I’ve been using it for 9 years which is honestly a bit startling.
If you want it to stay all day then yes - try hourglass powder just roll a bit w an eyeshadow brush then setting spray
Hourglass Veil translucent setting powder is my all time holy grail! It has such a beautiful finish and makes my skin look phenomenal.
